There's a sudden hot flush in her cheeks, and she's quietly -- and very grudgingly -- grateful that his attention is on his hands.

She doesn't think he's quite getting it -- or maybe he is and he's not believing her -- but she's surprised that he's not. Even more surprising to her is the fact that she wants him to get it.

She wishes she could will him -- just this once -- to read her mind, because it'd be so much easier.

Looking toward the ceiling, she takes a breath.
